Car Insurance BMW (Car Insurance). How Much Mileage Before Automatic Gear Box Has Problems?

How Much Mileage Before Automatic Gear Box Has Problems? I drive and automatic gear box car..Im thinking of buying a new car that also automatic..I know automatic cars are more expensive to fix but im just wondering how much mileage does an automatic gear box have to do before you start having gear box problems? I know manual cars have their clutch problems after the cars done over 60,000 on the clock would i have gear box problems if i got a car that has already done between 30,000 to 40,000?

you have several more miles left on it as long as you take care of it. don,t floor board, change the fluid and filter when it,s time and watch it the engine don,t overheat because it will burn the fluid. another thing helps too. if your sitting in traffic a long time, throw it in neutral or shut it off. Hi from past experience there is some problems with automatics you need to be aware of especially those with the smaller engines. In my opinion and it is my own opinion i would not touch a ford with an automatic gear box having own five ford escorts and driven several automatic fiestas they are a law unto themselves and are in the garage more than on the road. the automatic even to day is best in a 2 litre or larger car. you should get realistically around 100,000 miles with a current model car, under normal driving conditions "I know manual cars have their clutch problems after the cars done over 60,000 on the clock" No you should be fine, i have an automatic trans with 130k plus miles on it. As long as you perform the schedule maintenance of replacing the fluid and filter when needed. you should be OK. good luck...... all cars are different, some last much longer than others, now adays its hard to tell, some cars that are supposed to be strong and bullet proof, turn out not to be, while other cars that seem kind of old and tired, tend to run like some frigging energizer bunny and go and go and go. Lets hope with good research on your part you find a really good care that meets your needs. Try Edmunds.com this is a website that has a lot of information on new and used cars. and you can compare various makes and models and do all kinds of stuff. have fun good luck. Depends how it's been driven, but in a small car anything much over 80-100k miles you're probably on borrowed time. I have had one car that did 162000 on an auto box and when I sold it it was as good as the day I got it and it had no repairs.

BMW . How to cancel a CAN BUS bulb failure warning with a bulb missing.?

How to cancel a CAN BUS bulb failure warning with a bulb missing.? I have a 1997 Jaguar XJ6, which I have upgraded the rear lights to the later XJ8 crystal type which look much nicer. Unfortunately they differ slightly, in that the XJ8 uses one less tail light bulb each side, and houses a reflecter instead. Because of this, I would either have to drill a hole in the reflecter to house the bulb, or the bulb warning light on the dashboard will show. Is there any other way of going about this? I take it the canbus system detects resistance in the circuit - could I replace the bulb with a resister or does it not work like that? If I could - what resistance should it be? (The tail lights are 5w each side). Thanks in advance. car insurance.

Mechanic said I need a wiring harness because my car is dying randomly? My mechanic told me I need a wiring harness for my car because the oil leak I had (that they fixed) saturated the wires. So there's one that needs a wiring harness and that will prevent the car from dying again. It loses power but starts back up everytime. Note everything has been replaced except the tranny. Anyone know what wiring harness I would need? I've researched and found there are several for different purposes. car insurance.

BMW . How to Drain a Ford Torque Converter

The torque converter on a Ford vehicle provides a fluid coupling between the engine and the automatic transmission. This coupling multiplies engine torque and delivers it to the input shaft of the transmission. The torque converter replaces the clutch on vehicles with automatic transmission. The torque converter can be drained as a part of a regular service to the vehicle's transmission or in preparation to remove it.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Drain pan
Jack
Jack stands
Mechanic's tool set

Step by Step :
1
Park the vehicle where you will be working on it. Park on level ground and apply the parking brake. Allow the vehicle to sit at least an hour to completely cool.
2
Jack the front of the vehicle up to an appropriate height, then put jack stands under the axles. Lower the vehicle onto the jack stands.
3
Get under the car to access the torque converter. The torque converter is inside the bell housing at the rear of the engine and in front of the transmission.
4
Remove the bolts holding the converter dust cover in place on the front of the bell housing. Remove the dust cover. Set the dust cover and the bolts aside.
5
Hand rotate the converter until the drain plug is at the bottom.
6
Position the drain pan under the converter.
7
Remove the drain plug from the converter and allow the fluid to drain into the pan.
Tips & Warnings
Wear eye protection when performing mechanical work to your vehicle.

BMW . How to Remove Torque Converter Bolts

Depending on the vehicle, there are two ways to access the bolts for the torque converter. There will either be a cover or plate at the bottom of the bellhousing that conceals the converter, or you will need remove the starter to gain access to the bolts. It is simple to establish whether there is a cover by looking at the bellhousing just behind the rear of the oil pan. It may be a small flat plate or a larger section rounded like the bellhousing. The engine must be turned to rotate the torque converter to access all the bolts one at a time.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Floor jack
Jack stands
Large common screwdriver
Set of wrenches
3/8-inch drive ratchet
Set of 3/8-inch drive sockets
1/2-inch drive ratchet
Set of 1/2-inch drive sockets

Step by Step :
1
Establish whether there is a cover on the bellhousing for use in accessing the torque converter. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, using a wrench, if there is no cover. Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands.
2
Remove the access panel if there is one, using the 3/8-inch drive socket. If there is no panel, remove the starter using the 3/8-inch drive socket. Disconnect the electrical wires using a wrench, then lay the starter out of the way.
3
Place a 1/2-inch drive socket of the appropriate size on the crankshaft pulley bolt.
4
Remove the torque converter bolts one at a time with a 3/8-inch drive socket and ratchet. After removing one bolt, turn the crankshaft in the normal direction of rotation until the next bolt appears in the window of accessibility. Continue to turn the crankshaft until all three or four bolts are removed. Most vehicles use four bolts, but some have only three. When all are removed, the torque converter can be moved rearward.

Considering other options to reduce chronic overheating 'very vehicle has a cooling system to help it run efficiently and prevent mm it rit from overheating. Keeping it operating properly usually requires no work — just an occasional check or change of coolant and a watchful eye for leaks. \\V I Chapter 8 takes a close look at the parts of the cooling system. If you haven't read that chapter, please review it before undertaking any of the work in this chapter. This chapter discusses the things you can do to help your vehicle keep its cool under normal circumstances. It tells you how to prevent overheating by checking and replacing the liquid in the system, how to flush the system and change the coolant, and how to deal with other common causes of overheating: a malfunctioning radiator pressure cap or thermostat, deteriorated hoses, and coolant leaks. The first sign of overheating is when the temperature gauge needle pushes its way into the ominous red zone, or the "Check Engine" or "Temperature" light on the dashboard glows a sinister scarlet. Left alone, the liquid in the radiator eventually boils over, and steam rolls out from under the hood. If you ignore the problem, your vehicle eventually loses power, your engine grinds to a halt, and you end up with a giant repair bill. If you take action at the first indication of a problem, you can probably avoid this doomsday scenario. Even if you end up needing major repairs, at least you'll know that you explored all the cheaper options first. Addressing occasional overheating Almost every vehicle overheats occasionally. Usually, the cause of the problem is nothing more than being stuck in stop-and-go traffic on an excruciatingly hot day. If this happens to you while you're on the road, the section called "If

Your Vehicle Overheats" in Chapter 21 tells you what to do. Healing With a chronic hothead If your vehicle overheats often and constantly loses liquid, the problem may be caused by a leak — or leaks — in your cooling system (see "Finding and Repairing Coolant Leaks" later in this chapter). If your vehicle overheats in normal weather and traffic, you may need to replace the thermostat, adjust the fan belts, or check the water pump. You can deal with most of these problems cheaply and easily by following the instructions in later sections of this chapter. Identifying other causes of overheating Some overheating problems aren't related to the cooling system at all. Other circumstances that can cause a vehicle to overheat include lack of oil, a blown head gasket, and transmission problems. If the cooling system seems to be in good order after you check it and do the maintenance work in this chapter, investigate these possibilities: Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn v0 Late timing: If you haven't tuned and timed your engine recently, late timing may be causing it to overheat by making the spark plugs fire the fuel/air mixture after the piston moves back down from the top of its stroke. When the spark plugs fire too late to allow all the gases to burn properly, more heat burdens your cooling system. Late timing alone doesn't cause a car to overheat by more than a few degrees, but coupled with other problems, it can bring the engine temperature to a critical point. The remedy is simple: Just check your timing and adjust it by following the instructions in Chapter 12. v* Plugged radiator: Some radiators get so plugged up with rust, sediment, or small insects that even cleaning and flushing them doesn't get all the junk out. Because plugged passages cut down on the system's liquid circulation, the system can't cool efficiently. The remedy is to have a radiator specialist remove and steam clean the radiator. v* Slipping fan belt: Check the fan belt or accessory belt that drives the water pump to be sure that there's no more than about % inch of give. If the belt is looser than that, it may not be driving the pump properly, and that can impair circulation and overheat the cooling system. If your fan belt seems loose or very frayed, replace it according to the instructions in "Adjusting and Replacing Accessory Belts" later in this chapter. v0 Collapsing bottom radiator hose: Occasionally, a bottom radiator hose begins to collapse under the vacuum that the water pump creates, and the impaired circulation causes overheating. Here's how to check the hose:

If your car starts to overheat, park safely and open the hood without shutting off the engine. Make sure that the car is in Park with the parking brake on. Then take a look at the bottom hose (be careful not to get your hair or clothing caught in the fan or the fan belt) and see whether the hose has collapsed. If it has, replace it. You can find instructions for replacing hoses later in this chapter. v* Low oil level: If you still can't find the cause of overheating, check your oil dipstick. A vehicle that's low on oil tends to overheat because the oil removes from 75 to 80 percent of the "waste heat" in your engine (in addition to doing its other job of cushioning the moving engine parts). If you're 1 quart low in oil and your vehicle holds 5 quarts, the oil can carry away 20 percent less heat (the oil cools off in the crankcase). See Chapter 3 for instructions on checking the oil level and adding oil. Under normal circumstances, you can prevent overheating by checking the level of liquid in the system and maintaining it properly. The next sections tell you how to do so. Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System Checking and Adding Liquid to Hour Cooling System One of the quickest, easiest, and least expensive tasks you can perform to keep your cooling system cool is to check the fluid level in the system and add water and coolant, if necessary. Before you attempt to do anything to your cooling system, be aware of two important safety rules:
